Jayna Wellman

A memorial service will be held 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at the First Baptist Church of Roswell, for Jayna Kay Wellman, age 57, of Roswell, NM who earned her precious angel wings on September 1, 2016. Chaplain Tim Arlett will be officiating.

Jayna passed away after a courageous 10 year battle with stage 4 breast cancer. She passed at the family home surrounded by her family and closest friend. Jayna was born in Levelland, Texas on October 14, 1958 to J.J. and Edna Jenkins. She lived a blessed childhood with three sisters full of faith, love, close family, and lifelong friendships. Jayna was a proud graduate of Goddard High School, class of 1977. She went on to attend New Mexico State University, then moved to Dallas to attend Mrs. Wade's School of Fashion and Merchandising. One of the biggest perks of being in Dallas was that she was able to route for her Cowboys every Sunday and during that time she met her real Dallas Cowboy, James "Ricky" Richard Wellman. They were married June of 1982 and were blessed with two daughters. The family returned to Roswell in 1987 when Jayna began a 10+ year career at TMC/Nova Bus. She went on to become a correctional officer, then a court clerk with Chaves County Magistrate Court where she retired in 2015. Jayna met many loving and amazing friends along the way who have become close to the family and have been a great support. Jayna's passions in life have always been art and her family. She especially loved spending time with her 15 grandbabies. Family is something that meant the world to her. She was a very selfless person who always made sure her family was taken care of above all else. Even to the end she showed her unconditional love and undying strength.

Jayna was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, John and Autie Jenkins and her maternal grandparents Lee and Lois Selman, her mother Edna (Honey) Selman Jenkins, and nephew Christopher Mohan.

Jayna is survived by her father J. J. (Grandy) Jenkins of Lubbock, TX. Her husband James Richard Wellman of Roswell. Two daughters Jinny Calkins and husband Bryan of Roswell, Angie Bersane of Roswell, stepson Robert Wellman and wife Katie of Roswell, and stepdaughter Krystal Vaughn of Durant, OK. 15 precious grandbabies, Allison, Travis, Joseph Richard, Emily, Stephen, James Mathew, Justin, Luke, Tanner James, Amethyst, Rosie Jayne, Elaina, Christina, Samantha, and Breanna. Three sisters, Patty Mohon and husband John of Milnesand, NM, Nancy Haney and husband Ed of Lubbock, TX, and Meri Schrader and husband Dave of Cincinnati, OH. Five nephews, Cliff Evans of Frankston, TX, Shaun Wellman and wife Adriana of Roswell, NM.

Steven Potter of Fall River, MA, Chaddick Mohon and wife Laura of Tatum, NM, and A.J. Haney and Wife Hailee of Clear Lake, TX. Four niece's Summer Mohon Perkins and husband Mike of Houston, TX, Jessica Mohon Alayon and husband Benito of Houston TX, Tamara Haney of Lubbock, TX, and Nicole Gonzales of Linden, TX. She is also survived by her Mother-in-law Billie Ellington of Linden, TX. Brother in Law Jerry Evens and wife Kelly of Pagosa Springs, CO. Sister in Law Silvia Wellman of Mt. Selmon, TX., and Sister in Law Cindy Wellman of Linden, TX. Jayna was an extremely special lady. She was loved by so many. She had a strength inside her that most could only dream of having. She was a loving, selfless women with a beautiful smile that would light up the entire room. Her love and memories will live on inside of us for eternity. She will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved her.
