PHELPS, J.B. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M., on Thursday, September 8, 2011 at LaGrone Funeral Chapel for J.B. Phelps, age 85, of Roswell, who passed away September 5, 2011. Pastor Melvin Suttle of First Assembly of God Church will officiate with interment to follow at South Park Cemetery

J.B. was born March 6, 1926 to James A. and Mary Phelps in Atoka, Oklahoma. They have preceded him in death.

He has also been preceded in death by one sister, Alean Forneris and brotherinlaw Pete Forneris and one brother Donald E. Rusty Phelps.

JB married Jo Marie Bridges on August 2, 1947 in Sherman, Texas. She survives him at the family home.

JB is survived by one daughter: Janice Stewart and her husband Doug of Roswell one son: Steve H. Phelps and his wife Gloria of Roswell one sister: Stella Lou Folsom and husband James of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Sue Phelps, sisterinlaw of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Also seven grandchildren: Dyan Bowman Justin Bowman and his wife Danielle of Ruidoso, NM Kristin Stewart and Eric Stewart of Albuquerque, NM, Teresa Barnett and husband Robert Barnett of Ruidoso, NM: Eric Ford and his wife Erin of Aurora, CO. Aaron Ford and his wife Lyn of Midland, Texas twelve great grandchildren and two greatgreat grandchildren

He served in the United States Navy from 19441946. In 1959, J.B. and Jo Marie moved to Roswell, NM, where he was employed by Dodson Wholesale Lumber Company. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church, and the American Quarter Horse Association. He was an avid horseman, spending a lot of his time doing what he loved.
