SPARKMAN, JEAN- Our beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother Jean Sparkman went to meet her Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 9, 2018 in Roswell, NM.
A visitation for Jean will be 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at LaGrone Funeral Chapel. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, June 14, 2018 at LaGrone Funeral Chapel with Pastor Troy Grant of Berrendo Baptist Church officiating, burial will follow at South Park Cemetery.
Jean was born on September 13, 1932 in Portales, NM to Albert E. and Elva W. Guss. She grew up in Roswell, NM with her other 11 (eleven) siblings. Jean attended Roswell High School and graduated in 1950. It was there that she met the love of her life Hoie B. Sparkman and they were married on April 21, 1951. Jean and Hoie were married for 67 wonderful years.
Jean was active in her church throughout her entire life. She was very involved in various mission programs both foreign and home. Jean was active in vacation bible school, G.A's, and W.M.U as well as many other mission activities.
Jean's focus and pleasure in life came from serving others. Jean made it a priority to ensure that no one was left in need. Jean always put others first and couldn't turn away a person in need. Anyone who met Jean fell in love with her immediately and dearly. Jean enjoyed singing in the choir, crossword puzzles, studying her bible and cooking for family and friends. Jean loved the mountains and her annual trip to cowboy camp. Her absolute favorite meal was homemade beans and corn bread.
Jean is preceded in death by her parents, Albert E. and Elva W. Guss; brothers, Paul, Earl, Ernest, Howard, Alvin; sisters, Ester, Doris, Letafay, Wynema.
She is survived by her husband, Hoie of Roswell, NM; son, Kevin (Jeannie) Sparkman of Springfield, MO; daughter, Glenna Roark of Roswell, NM; brother, Delbert (Sharon) Guss of Acworth, GA; and sister, Linda (Jimmy) Clements of Ruidoso, NM. Grandchildren, Brian (Beth) Roark, Staci (Michael) Candelaria, Jennifer Angelina Sparkman, Amanda Sparkman; great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Keziah, Lily, Rosie, Adaya, Anthony, Shaya, Ava, Grant, Xander, Clara, Mia and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Brian Roark, Ken Arther, Mike Hardwick, Micah Hardwick, Ted Anthony, Roy Dunseth; Honorary Pallbearer will be Denis Roark.
