Jo Prince

Jo Ann McNamara Prince went home to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on November 9, 2013. Jo Ann was born February 5, 1932 in Hagerman, New Mexico. Jo Ann was the daughter of James G. McNamara and Grace Leona Menoud McNamara, both of whom preceded her in death. She had one sister, Mary Bell McNamara and one brother, William James McNamara, who also preceded her in death. After living in many different states, Jo Ann and her parents moved to Roswell in 1945 where Jo Ann attended and graduated from Roswell High School in 1949.

Jo Ann married Harlon Erdman H.E. Prince in 1950. Her husband preceded her in death in 1988. They had two children, Debra Jane Prince, who survives her and resides in Roswell, and Steven Dale Prince, whose life was lost in an oil field accident in 1980.

Jo Ann was very active in the community of Roswell which she loved. She was active in P.T.A for 16 years having held many offices and was honored as a lifetime member. Jo Ann was a member of the Roswell Service League and the Roswell Community League. In 1970, she began volunteering at the Roswell Humane Society which became a lifelong passion serving as treasurer, president and Executive Director. She was instrumental in the planning and fundraising for the building of the current facility. Jo Ann devoted endless energy and compassion to caring for the hundreds of homeless cats and dogs that came through the doors of the Roswell Humane Society, and continued to support the shelter in whatever way she could throughout her life. In honor of her years of dedicated service, she was named the New Mexico Veterinarian Medical Associations 1994 Humanitarian of the Year. Jo Ann supported her children through her active involvement the East Side Little League, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and Goddard High School Booster Club. She was also a member of the Merry Homemakers Extension League. Jo Ann served as the Director of the Eastern Mexico State Fair for seven years and was the manager of the Roswell Country Club for ten years. Jo Ann became a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in 1953. In her later years, she was active in Senior Circle. She enjoyed reading, movies and was well known for her love of card games. She will be missed by her vast number of friends who she enjoyed spending time with and loved deeply.

A celebration of the life of Jo Ann Prince will be held on Friday, November 15 from 24:30 p.m., in the Fellowship Hall at the First Presbyterian Church, located at 300 W. Third Street in Roswell. Her many beloved friends are encouraged to stop by and share their memories of Jo Ann. A private service for Jo Ann will be held under the direction of LaGrone Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her honor to the Roswell Humane Society.
