Joann Turner Hobbs left the arms of her loving family and was taken up to be with her Lord and Savior on October 8, 2015 after a brief battle with cancer. Joann was born on October 21, 1937 in Terre Haute, Indiana to Dorothy and Kenneth Turner, she graduated from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Indianapolis. During a training rotation at Madison State Mental Hospital, she met a "smart-aleck med student" named Crit Hobbs. They were "crazy" about each other and celebrated their 56th anniversary in August. During her husband's stint in the army, Joann traveled the world, living in Germany for two years. After his discharge, they lived in Madisonville, KY and moved to Roswell, NM in 1978, where they opened a private medical practice. Joann told him she would work until he got established in his practice- they worked side-by-side until retiring in 2013.
Joann lived a life of faith. At the age of 14, she accepted Christ as her savior and devotedly served Him as Sunday School teacher, missionary president, and on numerous work and witness mission trips throughout the world. God's love shone through her, as Joann's compassion and caring for others was evident in all walks of her personal, professional, and spiritual life. Her infectious laugh and talkative nature were hallmarks of her warm personality.
Blessed with a large and loving family, Joann was a doting wife, mother and grandmother whose family was her pride and joy.
She is predeceased by her daughter Leigh Ann Vanover.
Survivors include children; Brenda Davis (Chris), Brian Hobbs (Cassie), and Christy Embry (Sal) and grandchildren; Matthew (Ericka), Seth, and Tim (Jennie) Vanover, Lauren and Austin Jennings, Jonathan, Jillian, and Jamison Hobbs, Riley and Haley Embry, "son-in-love" Monte Vanover, cousins Betty Cruise and Kay Grove (Bob), as well as the love of her life- Dr. Crit Hobbs.
When asked how she was feeling, Joann's response was, "I can't really complain."
The family would like to thank Dr. Tareq Braik, Dr. Richard Pinon, Gentiva Hospice Care, and the myriad of caring friends and neighbors who so graciously provided her with love and support throughout her illness.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Nazarene Compassionate Ministries, or a favorite charity in Joann's memory.
