ROBINSON, JOHN DOUGLAS, SR.On January 2, 2013, Doug Robinson left his earthly family and friends to go to his heavenly home with Jesus and those who have preceded him.
Dougs life on earth began in a small rural community in Grandview, Texas. He was born the youngest of five children on November 10, 1923 to Luke 0. Robinson and Allie Mae Wallace Robinson. He moved to Roswell, NM in 1939 with his family and worked for the US Civil Service Commission at the Roswell Army Air Base as an Airplane Engine Mechanic.
During World War II, he enlisted in the Army in 1943, after training in Automotive Equipment Mechanics he was promoted to Sergeant and worked as an Automotive Parts Clerk Supervisor in Walla Walla, Washington. He returned to civilian life in 1946.
He spent the remainder of his long career as a Parts Clerk for a number of automotive businesses in Roswell, NM: McNally Hall, Reliable Motors, Valley Chevrolet, Walker Chevrolet and a short stint at Roswell Ford. He was one of the best Parts men there was and he made many friends along the way. We will all miss him very much.
Doug was preceded in death by his father and mother, Luke and Allie Robinson two brothers, Edgar and Donald Robinson a sister and brotherinlaw, Nora Lee JE Polson a sisterinlaw, Audrey Robinson and a great granddaughter, Brooklyn Jill Stark.
Doug is survived by his loving wife, Louise at the family home. He is also survived by two sons, John D. Robinson, Jr. Laverne of Alamogordo, NM and Darrell Robinson Laurie of Tyler, TX five daughters, Ann Brustkern Bob of Iowa, Shirlene Arnold Dave, Mary Dixon Darrell, Melissa Waltmire Jason all of Roswell, NM and Linda Jackson of Washington one brother, Marshall Robinson of Clovis, NM. Doug also leaves behind 16 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jason Waltmire, Darrell Dixon, John Robinson, Dustin McCormick, Jacob Reed, and Wes Marr.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dana Larou, Vernon Fenter, Henry Ogas, Albert Flores, Don Kendall, Paul Sorenson, John Lorch, and Thurman Lester.
Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 4, 2013 at LaGrone Funeral Chapel. Pastor Melvin Suttle of First Assembly of God Church will officiate, Interment to follow at South Park Cemetery, with Military Honors provided by Roswell Veterans Honor Guard.
