Jo Marie Phelps

PHELPS, JO MARIE- Jo Marie Phelps entered into her heavenly rest, into the arms of her savior Jesus Christ on Friday, December 11, 2020 at the age of 92 years.

Jo Marie was born June 24, 1928, at the farm home of her Grandparents Clifton near Bennington, Oklahoma.  Jo Marie married J.B. Phelps on August 2, 1947, in Sherman, Texas. She was preceded in death by husband J.B. Phelps, parents Forrest and Estelline Bridges, and brother James Bridges.

She is survived by two children, daughter Janice Stewart and husband Doug of Roswell and their four children and three grandsons.  Son, Steve H. Phelps and wife Gloria of Roswell and their three children seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.  Sister Pat Williams and husband Herb of Houston, Tx, sister-in-law Joyce Bridges of Waxahachie, TX.  Numerous nieces and nephews.

In 1964, she received her degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University, Durant, Oklahoma.  Her first job was at Walker Air Force Base teaching Kindergarten. Later moving to the First grade classes, she taught at BI Affairs & Theiocal Company, and Valley View School, which she retired in 1987 after 16 years at the same room and first grade.  After two (2) years vacation/retirement, she joined the staff of Gateway School teaching ten (10) years and substituting three (3) years.

One of Jo Marie’s greatest blessings granted her in 1977 and 1992, was trips to Megada- Petra, Israel; Ammon, Jordan R; Acropolis, Italy; Alps of Switizland, Mars Hill Old Carinth, Greece; and Catacombs, Rome.

The family wishes to give special “Thanks” to all who have sent prayers, calls and to the staff of Sunset Villa for their care that was given to our loved one.

Jo Marie will be laid to rest beside her husband J.B., at South Park Cemetery under private services, directed by LaGrone Funeral Chapels.
