June Brown

June 21, 1926 — November 27, 2012

BROWN, JUNE N. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM, Friday, November 30, 2012, at the Country Club Road Church of Christ for June N. Brown, age 86, of Roswell, who passed away November 27th in Roswell. Doug Austin and Tim Dunnahoo will conduct the service. Interment will follow at South Park Cemetery.

June was born June 21, 1926, in Plainview, Texas to D.A. and Fleta C. Nix. She graduated Valedictorian of her high school class in Happy, Texas. She continued her education at Liperts Business College. On August 19, 1945, she married Rex N. Brown in her familys home near Tulia, Texas. While Rex completed his degree at Texas Tech, June worked at the Texas Tech Bookstore and set up and maintained the accounts of all the G.Is returning from World War II who were attending Texas Tech. Through the years, she served as a Girl Scout leader, a reading mentor in the HOSTS program at Washington Ave. Elementary, and actively participated in numerous organizations and activities that were beneficial to those around her. June excelled as a Christian helpmate, mother, NaNa, and friend and was a consistent source of wisdom, strength, and encouragement to all with whom she came in contact.

June lived a beautiful life Her thoughtfulness of others was reflected in her gracious hospitality and her willingness to help others in whatever way she could. She was an active member of the Country Club Road Church of Christ. June helped start the Thanksgiving Luncheon hosted by the Church for residents of retirement facilities, the residents of nursing homes, and the shutins of Roswell and she headed that project for over 20 years. June touched the lives of numerous children and their families in a positive way as a Bible class teacher, a VBS teacher, and as the Secretary at Washington Ave. Elementary. Her ability to face the challenges of life and make the best of every circumstance will forever inspire us to be better than we are.

In 1987, June retired from her position as Secretary at Washington Ave. Elementary after 21 years of service. She was preceded in death by Rex, the love of her life, both parents, and her sister, Yvonne Duncan.

June is survived by a son, Dr. David Brown and his wife Vicki, of Odessa, TX, and a daughter, Beverly Blackwell and her husband KoKo, of Roswell 9 grandchildren: Nathan Brown, Richard Brown, Trey Brown, Michael Blackwell and wife Arlas, Jono Blackwell and wife Heather, Chris Blackwell, Beth Hadley and husband Mark, Lindsay Evans and husband Cody, and Shayne Young. Also surviving June are 9 great grandchildren: Caleb Blackwell, Luke Blackwell, Abigail Blackwell, Holly Blackwell, Rexton Blackwell, Madison Blackwell, Grayson Hadley, Mackenzie Evans, and Kellan Evans. Other survivors include nephew Gary Lehnen and wife Karen, grandnephews Clint Lehnen and wife Meredith, and Clay Lehnen and wife Eleah and great grandnephews and great grandnieces Korie Lehnen, Jack Lehnen, Macie Paige Lehnen, and Ella Lehnen.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Michael Blackwell, Jono Blackwell, Chris Blackwell, Mark Hadley, Nathan Brown, Richard Brown, and Trey Brown.

Friends may make memorials in Junes memory to the New Mexico Christian Childrens Home located in Portales, New Mexico or their favorite charity.
