LaGene E. Verhines was born January 18, 1931 in Clovis, NM, to Lawrence Eugene English and Lucille Maurine Fortner English. LaGene attended school (elementary through high school) in Roswell, graduating from Roswell High in 1950. She married Bill on August 12, 1951 at the little rock church in Glencoe, NM. Shortly after their marriage, Bill was sent to Georgia for military service and LaGene accompanied him. They returned to Roswell where they made their home for 63 years. LaGene was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Roswell, and was a passed Acteens Leader and a Greeter. Many members of the church enjoyed seeing her, with her loving smile on Sunday Mornings at the south door of the church. She was a past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star, and a member of Misslamo Extension Club. She worked for her uncle Dale Dodds at Kwik-It printing in the 1980's and then had a craft business with her dear friend Carol Cunningham. LaGene will always be remembered for her cheerful manner and never met a stranger that did not become a friend. The Bible states "you will be known by your fruits", and she exemplified this everyday of her life. She had a big heart and was always ready to help anyone in need. Mema and Papa, we await joining you for a wonderful celebration in Heaven.
