Leo Sellars

May 24, 1925 — March 21, 2013

On March 21st, 2013 Leo Rogers Sellars, 87, peacefully slipped his earthly bonds and greeted his family in Heaven who welcomed him with open arms.

A visitation will be held from 46pm on Sunday, March 24, 2013 at LaGrone Funeral Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 2pm on Monday, March 25, 2013 at Memory Lawn Memorial Park. Pastor Troy Grant of Berrendo Baptist Church will officiate with military honors provided by the Roswell Veterans Honor Guard.

Leo was born on May 24th 1925 in Geary, Oklahoma, to Reba Morrow Sellars and Clarence Sellars. At 17, he enlisted in the US Navy, where he was assigned to the USS Sioux ATF75, a Navajo Class Fleet tug. During his three years in the Navy, he attained the rank of Carpenters Mate Third Class, and earned the WWII Victory Medal, AsiaticPacific Campaign Medal 4 Stars, Good Conduct Medal and an American Campaign Medal. He was Honorably Discharged in March of 1946.

Sometime after his discharge, he found his way to Roswell, New Mexico, where he met Mildred Vance Kiper. They were married in July of 1952 and celebrated over 50 years of Marriage. Leo retired from the US Postal Service in Roswell. He then devoted his time to taking care of his wife, and his wood carving hobby. Leo was moved to Alamogordo, NM in March 2005, to be closer to family. He enjoyed spending time at the Alamogordo Senior Center, walking around the neighborhood with the family dog, and eating.

Leo was predeceased by his parents, his wife, his brother Ray Sellars, son Jimmy H. Kiper and daughter Annette Kiper Lamb. Survivors include his six Grandsons Jimmy Kiper, Mike Kiper, Steve Kiper, James Lamb, William Bill Lamb, Randy Lamb, and their families, which include numerous Great and GreatGreat Grandchildren. Grandpa loved us all, and he will be greatly missed.
