Leo Bail Spear was born September 4, 1928 in Lake Phelps, N.C. to Crettie and Bailey Spear and was raised on a nearby farm. Leo was preceded in death by his parents as well as his two sisters and five brothers.
Leo joined the Army-Air Force on November 22, 1946. When the Air Force became a separate service branch he transferred to it and spent most of his service in the Air Police. He retired on December 1, 1966 with 20 years of service. During his service he spent several tours at various Pacific Ocean bases, and had a tour in England. He was assigned guard duty during nuclear testing in the Pacific in 1948, and guarded building S-84 on the Roswell Army-Airfield when the "alien remains" were housed there. During his service he received several commendations and medals, including the Air Force Commendation Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.
In August of 1967 Leo joined the staff of ENMU-R as the Campus Police Chief and retired from there in July of 1992. During this time he received several commendations from the local authorities.
Leo married Margie Brumley November 22, 1949 and were blessed with six children. On March 24, 1995 Leo married Patricia Martin Perry.
Leo is survived by his wife Patricia, his six children, Leo B. Spear Jr. and wife Carolyn of Rapid City, S.D., Terry Spear and wife Betty of Roswell, Debbie Williams and husband Jack of Roswell, Randy Spear and wife Nema of Capitan, N.M., Judaun Spear-Prichard of Roswell, and Cheryl Johnson and husband Brad of Portales, N.M. Leo was also blessed with 12 grandchildren, Charlie Spear and wife Kim of Roswell, Steven Spear of Sioux Fall, S.D., Daryl Spear and Shawn of Ft. Pierre, S.D., Christie Campbell and husband Justin of Roswell, Jimmie Williams and wife Melissa of Roswell, Robert Spear and Melinda of Dexter, N.M., Nakesha Forrest and husband J.J. of Roswell, Christopher Spear and wife Nichole of Roswell, Corey Johnson and wife Johnna of Portales, N.M., Joshua Johnson and Ariel of Portales, N.M., Travis Johnson and wife Tana of Earth, TX, Breann Hudson and husband Justin of Clovis, N.M.. and seventeen Great Grandchildren, Patricia Spear, Jacob Spear, Cody Spear, Caleb Spear, James Forrest, Cooper Campbell, Jace Williams, Caitlin Campbell, Alyssa Spear, Janice Forrest, Brock Spear, Collin Johnson, Dominic Spear, Jonathon Forrest, Jackson Williams, Brantley Spear, Brazen Spear and two more great grandchildren to be born - one in July and one in September. Also, are numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Step daughters Michelle Madsen and Andrea Yates and step grandchildren Alysha Bolduc, Curtis and Cameron Madsen.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons.

Don't weep for me, shed tears of joy, I am no longer in pain, my suffering is over, I have been healed and have an eternal life now. When you want to see me just lift your eyes toward heaven, that's where I'll be. Waiting one day to receive you with me.
