THOMPSON, L.O. TOMMY --On December 21, 2007 Mr. L.O. Tommy Thompson passed away the age of 95. He came to Roswell, with his family in 1929, where he lived for 74 years until he and his wife moved to Texas to be near their Children.
In 1941 he joined the Roswell police force as a patrolman which was the beginning of a long career in law enforcement. In 1942 he took a position as a deputy sheriff of Chaves County until he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the Pacific until 1946. On his return to Roswell the became the Chief deputy of the Chaves County until 1948 when he was appointed Chief of the Roswell Police Department a position he held until 1964.
He served two terms as Justice of the Peace between 1965 and 1969 followed by two terms as Sheriff of Chaves County from 1971 through 1974. He concluded his career as Magistrate of Chaves County from 1975 to 1982 when he retired from public service.
He is survived by his son Leslie Thompson, his daughter Jacklyn and son-in-law David Ford, a grandson Barney Durham his wife Colleen and Daughter Jade Eva Durham, a grand daughter Bridgette Eve Ford, nieces Barbara Evans and husband John Evans, Mary Price and husband Gene Price, and a nephew John Hobson and wife Susan.
The funeral service will be held on Sunday, December 30th, 2007 at 2:00 pm in the La Grone Funeral Chapel.
