Lewis Lew Morrill Fitts, age 78, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Palm Sunday, March 28, 2010 after a brief illness.
Lew was born to John and Alice Fitts in Penacook, New Hampshire on December 23, 1931. He graduated from Penacook High in 1949. He worked at WKXL radio and WLNH before joining the army in 1952. Lew married the love of his life, Carolyn York, on April 25, 1953 and celebrated 57 wonderful years of marriage together. Lew and Carolyn relocated to New Mexico in the mid 50s where they raised their family. Lew worked in the radio and television broadcasting industry for 20 years. He then owned a Roswell Tastee Freeze for 14 years. He later worked for House of Art Jewelers and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. After his retirement, Lew was involved in various activities through the Senior Circle and enjoyed spending time with his family and being Grampy to his many grandchildren. He was an avid reader and took pleasure in singing, volunteering at the RMAC and Assumption Catholic Church. His dry, witty sense of humor brought many laughs from family and friends and the people he had personal contact know and can relay their experiences in regards to his gentle, kind and understanding nature. Grampy loved to participate in his grandchildrens sports activities and dance recitals. He will be truly missed by all.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn, his five children, Joni Billy Krompel of Price, UT, Terry Mickey Lashley of Boerne, TX, JohnTammy Fitts , Larry Trish Fitts, and Russell Renee Fitts all of Roswell, NM. Also surviving are his 12 grandchildren, J.R, Amber, Amanda, Candace, Kristopher, Rachael, Nicholas, Lauren, Stuart, Justin, Taylor, and Ethan as well as 14 greatgrandchildren.
A rosary will be held on Tuesday, March 30th at 7pm at LaGrone Funeral Chapel. The memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 31st at 12:10 pm at Assumption Catholic Church, 2808 N. Kentucky.
