ISLAND, LILLIAN MARIEServices are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 13, 2013 at Mt. Gilead Missionary Baptist Church for Lillian Marie Island, age 87 of Roswell who passed away on July 3, 2013.
Lillian Marie Island was born July 21, 1938 to Elnora Sampson and Charlie Island in Arcadia, Louisiana. She was preceded in death by her Grandparents, mother, father, sisters Helen, Jewlean, Alice Jewel, and Elouise, brothers Elton, J.D., James and Carl. And a host of aunts, uncles, cousins nieces, nephews and also a host of friends.
Elnora moved her family from Arcadia, to Roswell when she was 14 years old. Lillian completed her education up to the 10th grade.
Lillian helped her mother raise and nurture her sister Elouise children after she passed away at an early age leaving behind 8 children. Betty, Johnny, Beverly Jean, Larry, Marilyn, Timothy and Tamela.
Lillian was a member of Harmony Baptist church until they moved to Roswell. She joined the Mt. Gilead Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. She sang in the choir and worked on the usher board and Missionary Society. She remained faithful until the Lord called her home. She loved attending church. She enjoyed the old hymns. A few of her favorite songs were Im on the battlefield for my Lord, The Lord will make a way somehow, when Im on my mission Lord, Amazing Grace, Guild me O thy great Jehovah, Ill fly away and If I could hear my mother pray again.
Lillian became ill in 1990s and could no longer live alone. Tammy moved her into her home and cared for her until she was called home July 3rd 2013. Tammy loved caring for her and did all she could to make sure she had the best care that she could possibly get.
Lillian enjoyed going to the Joy Center where she loved arts and crafts, singing and being around others.
Lillian was loved by many and became Auntie to several that came to love and knew her.
During her illness her niece Joyce Lorraine Pierce moved to Roswell to help care for her. Lillian depended and called on her for help when Tammy was not available.
Special thanks to Angela Moore for all of the love and help gave her during her illness. Lillian would smile as soon as she heard her voice. Lillian looked forward for her to come to see her and would ask where she was when she wasnt here. Thanks also to Doris Sandifer for being here for her.
Lillian took the roll of loving grandmother to her great niece Robin Dorsey Sweet Pea Chad and Antony Stewart.
Those left to cherish her memory are her nieces, Tamela Stewart Lorraine Pierce. GreatNephews, Chad Stewart Anthony Juliana Stewart, Great Niece, Robin Tyrune Dorsey, Almetra Tony Strange, special faithful friends Doris Sandifer, Angela Moore, many other neighbors, friends relatives.
