Lois Schoen

June 26, 1924 — March 6, 2014

Lois Margaret Schoen, age 89 of Roswell passed away peacefully on March 6, 2014 in Roswell. She was born upstairs in her dads general store in Vermillion, MN on June 26, 1924, the third of four daughters.

After graduating from Hastings High School she went on to attend the College of St. Teresa, Winona, MN. Following college Lois began her teaching career. Her first calling was in Sleepy Eye, MN, and teaching third grade at St. Marys Catholic School, where she taught for three years.

On July 16, 1949 Lois married the love of her life, Richard J. Schoen. Their union would last fifty one years, until Dicks passing in 2000.

The couple moved to Roswell in the summer of 1953 and established new roots. Lois returned to teaching the third grade at St. Peters Catholic School where she continued on for a number of years. Prior to her retirement Lois also worked for the Chaves County Assessors Office.
Among her many accomplishments besides teaching, Lois was a published author, a gifted speaker and poet.

Her contagious smile won the hearts of everyone she met, and her witty sense of humor complimented her warm personality. With one raise of an eyebrow, Lois could convey her feelings without the use of any words.

Like many moms, she was also the familys doctor, nurse, advisor, confidant, washer woman, cleaning lady, cook and disciplinarian.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband Richard Dick parents, Louis and Elizabeth Fasbender sister and brother in law Dorothy and Steve Burr sister and brother in law Mary Jane and F.J. Rusty Poepl brother in law Ron Goedken.

She is survived by, sister Virginia Kitty Goedken children Scott R. Mary Lee Schoen grandchildren, Kimberly Curtis Tuley, Amanda Brandon Arnold, Meagan Brandon Brown 4 greatgrandchildren, Cody Tuley, Carson and Colton Arnold, and Evie Brown.

A rosary will be recited at 1:30 P.M. followed by a Mass of Resurrection, which will be celebrated by Father Charlie Martinez, OFM on Friday, March 14, 2014 at St. Peters Catholic Church, 111 E. Deming.

Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers to All Saints Catholic School or Poor Clare Monastery.
