GREEN, LONNIE ALVIN- Lonnie Green, age 80, passed away on October 13, 2019 at his home in Roswell, NM surrounded by his loving family. Lonnie was born on October 4, 1939 in Bruce, Arkansas and is the son of Dee Lawrence and Velma Geniva Green. Lonnie and his wife Mary Ann lived in Roswell for the last 57 years.
After attending 12 different schools in New Mexico and Arkansas, Lonnie graduated from Artesia High School in 1958. Lonnie’s work history started at age 13 delivering newspapers. When he was 18, he moved to Roswell and worked at various grocery stores before spending 30 years as a delivery driver for Frito Lay. In 1997, he retired with 30 years of safe driving and a large base of customers who liked and respected him.
Lonnie met his wife of over 57 years (Mary Ann) in 1961 and shortly thereafter they married. In 1965 they had their first son Michael Todd and in 1968, their son Dee was born. Lonnie was a wonderful father and family man and was loved and respected by all around him. He always had a smile for everyone around him.
Lonnie loved to hunt and fish and passed his love and skills on to his sons. Other hobbies Lonnie enjoyed included playing cards, dominoes, and golf. Lonnie made frequent trips to the casino and not many days went by without Lonnie enjoying his hobbies and being victorious. Lonnie played golf throughout his life and at his best carried an eight handicap. Lonnie also had a green thumb and produced a nice garden every year especially after he retired. The produce he harvested was exceptional and was enjoyed by many friends and family.
Those left to treasure Lonnie’s memory include his wife Mary Ann; two sons, Mike of Roswell and Dee of Houston and his wife Dina Colucci; three grandchildren Michael Lonnie, Eddie and Dominic; two sisters Shirley Bronson (Bob) of Simi Valley and Velma Lynn Karr of Artesia: two brothers JD (Virginia) of Sheridan, AR William Thomas (Solange) of Van Nuys, CA; special niece Jennie Vallejos (Rick) and her children which include Danielle, Michael, Demi, and Brady; daughter-in-law Heather.
Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents Dee Larrence and Velma Geniva Green as well as Brother Tommy.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00PM, Friday, October 18, 2019 at LaGrone Funeral Chapel.
