WASSERMAN, MARGARET PATRICIA A Rosary is scheduled for Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. at LaGrone Funeral Chapel for Margaret Patricia Wasserman, age 83, of Roswell, who passed away on December 19, 2008. A funeral mass will be celebrated at Assumption Catholic Church on Thursday, January 24, 2008, at 12:10 p.m. Father Bill McCann will officiate with interment to follow at Memory Lawn Memorial Park.
Patricia was born October 7, 1924, in Montreal, Canada, to John Earnest Hyland and Margaret Jane nee Quinn Hyland. Her family immigrated to the U.S. when she was a small child and she was reared in New York City. It was in NYC during WWII that she met Glen G. Wasserman from Cuero, Texas, who was recuperating from a battle injury received during the Battle of the Bulge. They married on April 21, 1946. The early years of their marriage took them to Del Rio, Waco, Sweetwater and eventually Big Spring, Texas, where their first child, Gene Richard Wasserman was born. At that time, Mr. Wasserman was transferred to Roswell, N.M. in 1950 to help open a new Montgomery Wards department store. In Roswell, three more children were born: Victoria Wasserman, Linda Wasserman, Carol nee Wasserman Brady. All four children survive Mrs. Wasserman along with one grandchild, Loretta Brady and two great grandchildren, Breanna Brady and Antonio Lerma.
Mrs. Wasserman is preceded by her husband, Glen Wasserman, who passed away less than a year ago, on March 16, 2007; also predeceased are her parents, three brothers and sister: James J. Hyland, Hugh Hyland and Thomas Henry Harry Hyland.
As residents of Roswell for nearly 60 years, Glen and Patricia Wasserman were members of St. Peters Catholic Church, then of Assumption Catholic Church. Mrs. Wasserman worked for many years as a Medical Records Clerk at the New Mexico Rehabilitation Center, while her husband was widely known among area farmers and ranchers for his long sales career with Smith Machinery Co.
The Wasserman family wishes to express a special Thank You to the staff at La Villa Assisted Living and Memory Care -especially to Natasha Kautz-for her compassionate care of our dear mother. Additionally, the staff at Sunset Villa gave us great comfort in caring for her in her final days since Christmas.
