Martin Jordan

The world is full of problem identifiers. Be different. Be unique. Be a problem solver. As an educator, Mr. J was just that kind of person. Martin Kent Jordan passed away on May 23, 2013 in Dallas, TX.

He was born in Portales, NM to Lonnie and Roedean Jordan on June 27, 1951. During his early childhood, Kent lived in Fritch, TX and Herscher, IL before moving to Artesia, NM where he completed his high school education 1969. After graduation, Kent attended HardinSimmons University in Abilene, TX where he was a member of Cowboy Band and Concert Choir and was awarded a Bachelors degree in Music Education 1977. In 1976, he and Judy Buckles were married. During his college career, Kent sang baritone solos from Handels Messiah with the Abilene Symphony and Amarillo Symphony and performed with the HardinSimmons choir as they toured Russia. Upon graduation, he spent seven years teaching band in Texas.

Kent and his family moved to Roswell, NM 1984 where he taught band in various elementary schools, Sierra Middle School, and Roswell High and served as the music coordinator for the RISD. Throughout his career, Kent also played with the Roswell Symphony and was the founder of the Roswell Community Band through ENMURoswell. He received a Masters degree in Music Education from ENMUPortales 1988. An active member of First Baptist Church, Kent taught for many years in Sunday school and served as a deacon. Above all, Kent is remembered for his passionparticularly for God, family, musicband, gardening, cooking, and collecting hot sauce and pocketknives.

He is survived by his wife Judy his parents: Lonnie and Roedean Jordan his sons: Tyler and Drew Jordan, both of Valencia, California one daughter: Sarah Jordan of Roswell three sisters: Adeana Carlyle and her husband Hardy of Taos, New Mexico, Beth Combs and her husband Bob of Artesia, New Mexico, and Marcia Hinze and her husband John of Tucumcari, New Mexico precious friend: John Odom also numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother: Thomas Bryan Jordan.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at First Baptist Church. Interment will follow at 2:00 P.M. at the Elida Cemetery in Elida, New Mexico. John Hinze of First Baptist Church in Tucumcari, New Mexico and Greg Buckles of Mansfield Bible Church in Mansfield, Texas will officiate.
