A private family service will be held for Mary Roberts Skidmore, 67, who died January 22, 2006 after a courageous three-year battle with breast cancer. She leaves a loving husband, James A. Skidmore, a close family and many friends.

Mary was born on May 10, 1939 in Minneapolis, MN to George F. Jud and Alice B. Roberts of Roswell. She was graduated from Roswell High School in 1957 and Texas Womens University in 1963. Her early career included stints with Hiller Aircraft and Stanford University.

Mary and Jim were married March 9, 1979 and for many years they owned and operated successful restaurants in Wyoming, Colorado and Oklahoma. The two finally moved back home to Roswell in 1999 where she became involved in the Roswell Civic Center, Grace Community Church and, as a lifelong animal lover, the Roswell Humane Society.

Whether talking to nationally-known celebrities or first-time strangers, she always was a wonderful listener and had the unique ability to make all feel special.

Mary is also survived by her mother, Alice B. Roberts of Roswell, sisters Sally Herbein of Roswell and Susan Tom Stanton of Huntington Beach, CA, brother Bill Patti Roberts of Roswell and eight nieces and nephews.

For those wishing to, contributions may be made in Marys name to the Roswell Humane Society.
