Mary Ann Chesser Sparkman age 87, who passed away Saturday February 6, 2016, will be lying in state for viewing 12:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Friday February 12, 2016. Funeral services are scheduled 10:00 A.M. Saturday February 13, 2016 at LaGrone Funeral Chapel, Robert Moore, minister of Compass Church and Kim Yoder Chesser will officiate.
Mary Ann was born May 30, 1928 in Roswell to Dave and Lena Mae Chesser, who preceded her in death, as well as six brothers and three sisters.
Mary Ann is survived by her children: Sandra Sparkman Gagnard of Ball, Louisiana, Linda Sparkman Hutchens of Gilbert, Arizona and Clay Sparkman and wife Loretta of Roswell; grandchildren: Steven Mertens and daughter-in-law Barbara Mertens, Mark Mertens and wife Holly, all of Pineville, Louisiana, Waid Huchens of Chandler, Arizona, Brenna Sparkman Williams and husband Kenny, Kirsten and Hannah Sparkman, all of Roswell, and eleven great-grandchildren. Other survivors are sisters-in-law Patsy Chesser of Roswell, Evelyn Sparkman of Oklahoma City and Jean Sparkman of Colton, California, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Mary Ann was a devoted wife and mother and multi-talented woman. She was an excellent homemaker and well-known for delicious home-cooked meals at noontime. Many family, friends and employees stopped by for lunch, knowing there would be plenty for everyone. Mary Ann was a skilled seamstress and sewed tirelessly for her family, as well as the public. She was also a hands-on manager and bookkeeper for multiple businesses she and Harvey owned throughout their sixty-five year marriage. She also worked part-time outside the home for many years. Whatever the need for the family and businesses, Mary Ann could get the job done with style and grace.
Mary Ann was born into a Church of Christ family and has been a lifetime member. The Ladies' Bible Study class at South Main Church of Christ was a special part of her life.
