Mattie Johnson

August 15, 1927 — September 12, 2014

Mattie Johnson, 87, went home to be with Jesus on Friday, September 12, 2014.

Mattie was born August 15, 1927, in Spiro, Oklahoma to Bill and Susie Holdridge. Mattie was the oldest of six children. At the age of 13, Mattie moved with her family to Dexter, NM after her parents found work with Berry Farms. In November of 1946, Mattie met the love of her life, J.D. Johnson, in Dexter. They married on February 21, 1947 and were married for 48 years before J.D.s passing in 1995. Mattie and J.D. both worked on Berry Farms while raising their family. Together they had three children, a house full of love, and a life full of memories.

Mattie was a strong woman of faith who was full of love and compassion. She continually gave of herself to her family and others. She would seek out those in need and those less fortunate and help them. After she moved to Casa Maria, she served as President of the Resident Counsel where she took her role as resident advocate very seriously. She loved children and found great joy being in their presence. She was a woman of strength, character, love, faith, determination, and perseverance who loved life and her Savior Jesus. Her wisdom and determination to live life and never give up were an inspiration to all who knew her.

Mattie is survived by one son: Jerry Johnson and his wife Carole of Albuquerque, NM two daughters: Ginger Davis and her husband Mike of Roswell, NM and Geraldine Lambert and her husband Jerry of Lovington, NM two sisters: Shirley Reeves and her husband Bob of Midland, TX and Jessie Woody and her husband Clifford of Stephenville, TX one sisterinlaw: Marie Bizzell of Roswell, NM: grandchildren: Jerry Weir and his wife Deanna, Jason Weir, Lisa Braggs and her husband Royce, Tammy Ranson and her husband Rance, Mikie Davis and his wife Kasi, John Robinson and James Robinson greatgrandchildren: Suzette, Thad, Julienne, Rhett, NeKila, Justin, Elijah, Jonathan, Brianna, Donovan, Danielle, Daelyn and Dylan, and two greatgreat grandchildren: Maddox and Hattie special friends: Esther, Charlotte, and Irene, also numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, J.D. Johnson, one brother, Billy Bob Holdridge, two sisters, Louise Melton and an infant sister, one stepbrother, Joe Holdridge.

Mattie asked that a special thank you be extended to Dr. Feroze for his kind, compassionate healthcare over the years. His attention and knowledge gave her precious time with her family for which they will always be grateful.
