RIORDAN, MAURINE -- Services are scheduled for Monday, 2:00 PM, October 15, 2007 at the First United Methodist Church, for Maurine Riordan, age 94, of Roswell, who passed away October 10, 2007, while living at La Villa Assisted Living in Roswell. Rev. Archie Echols of First United Methodist Church will conduct the service. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery.
Maurine was born February 3, 1913 in Plain Dealing, Louisiana, to Charles A. and Lucy B. Martin in Plain Dealing, Louisiana, and moved to Natchitoches, Louisiana as a youth, graduating from Natchitoches High School and Louisiana State Normal College, now known as Northwestern.
Her first job was teaching in Jennings High School, where she was also the secretary for the Principals office. Maurine received her Masters Degree at LSU in Baton Rouge and was then employed in the Comptrollers Office of Standard Oil Company in Baton Rouge.
She moved to Roswell in 1947 to be with her sister, Marie Fuller, where she was employed by Pecos Valley Lumber and later by Samuel Marshall of Marshall Winston. In 1949 Maurine visited her brother Charles Martin at the Panama Canal, where she was employed as an Air Force auditor. There she met her husband, Major Charles Riordan. They were married and moved to Roswell in 1954.
Maurine was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Riordan and son Charles Riordan, III. She is survived by one daughter, Maureen and her husband Dey Agahi and son, Dustin, and one daughter-in-law, Karen Riordan, and two grandchildren, Charles Riordan IV, and Michelle Riordan of Niceville, Florida. She is also survived by her brother, Charles Martin, and numerous nephews and nieces.
Maurine was a member of the Gold Star Wives Assistance League, the Roswell Symphony Guild, and RSVP of Chaves County. She was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church and sang in the choir.
