VOIGT, MELVIN EUGENE DICKFuneral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM, Friday, December 16, 2011 at LaGrone Funeral Chapel for Melvin Eugene Dick Voigt, age 77, who passed away in Lubbock on December 12. Rev. Matt Brooks of First Baptist Church will officiate with interment to follow at South Park Cemetery.
Dick was born February 21, 1934 in Red Rock, Texas, to Kirby Voigt and Lillie Mae Barnard Voigt, who have predeceased him.
He and Peggy Myers were married June 5, 1954 and made their home in Roswell all these years. He is survived by Peggy, his beloved daughter and her husband, Melissa and David Randle of Roswell and his beloved son and his wife, Joel and Melodie Voigt of Abernathy, Texas, and his grandchildren, which were his pride and joy, Ben and Emily Randle, Will, Jake and Matt Voigt, and Justin Cole Randle, who predeceased him this year. He is also survived by Cody and Bella Henson, nephews Dennis and Danny Mitcham, Gary Robinson, Ronnie and Chris Camp, Larry and Lane Miller, and nieces Kay Collins, Edna Alsbury, Gail Robinson, Gay Mitcham, Myrna Woods, Lawanda Corbett, Julie Kozlowski, Linda St. Dennis and Jane Leonardo. His brothers Doyle, Verbin and Hurlis Voigt, and his sisters, Ila Fay and Eva Voigt and Winona Tater Camp have predeceased him.
Dick attended school in Claunch, NM where his family farmed and ranched. His family moved to Roswell in 1950. He was employed by Hill Truck Lines which later became ICX Truck Lines, and worked there 33 years. Dick took great pride in his children and grandchildren and their accomplishments. He enjoyed football and baseball games, 4H activities and rodeos in which they participated. Dick loved the land and enjoyed being in the mountains either hunting, fishing, camping or being at his place in Lincoln County. His favorite pastime was tending his goats and animals, and looked forward to playing poker with his friends and visiting with his coffee buddies.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren and nephews Larry and Jason Miller. Honorary pallbearers are Vern Jacks, Johnny Young, Smokey Montgomery, A. J. Harrison. Carl Arnold, Butch Harton, Larry Grant, Ronnie Chambers and Donnie Chambers.
