RAINER, MERCEDES CELESTE -- A Graveside service is scheduled for 11:00 AM, Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at South Park Cemetery, for Mercedes Celeste Rainer, age 94 of Roswell, who passed away June 22, 2009 at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center. Fr. Paul Juniet, OFM of St. Peters Catholic Church will conduct the service.BRBRMercedes was born September 11, 1914 in Mercedes, Texas to Harry C. Rutherford and Maude Roseberry Rutherford. Both parents preceded her in death. She was proud of her Cherokee heritage, and had many stories to tell.BRBRHer Mother died when she was 4 years old and she was raised by her grandmother, Willomena Roseberry and her aunts, including her favorite, Aunt Myrtle.BRShe went to an Indian Boarding School in Claremore, Oklahoma. She came to Roswell from Embudo, NM, after her husband died.BRBRShe married Jack Cecil Rainer in 1940.
