Merle spent his younger years in Arlington, TX and later moved to Roswell where he graduated from Goddard High School and spent his remaining years on Earth. In 1990, he married Kathryn Jonas which vowed together two families into love. He worked in construction for most of his life, building houses and teaching his sons the art of carpentry. Merle developed pulmonary fibrosis as a result of his many years in construction work. He struggled with this condition for 16 years, but never let it defeat him or diminish his will to care for his family.
Merle accepted Jesus Christ as his savior, at the age of six years old, and never doubted it. He attended Tabernacle Baptist Church where he met Kathryn. He was a bus driver, teacher in the childrens ministry, and trustee. He endured many trials throughout his life, but he never stopped fighting the good fight, and always leaned on Christ throughout each and every one. He aimed to allow his faith to set an example for others to follow. His life touched many lives in unique and special ways.
Pallbearers will be: Bill Davis, Raz Carrasco, Gary Key, Doil McCreary, Mel Young and Blake Carpenter. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tabernacle Baptist Church Missions Fund: 115 W. 11th St., Roswell, NM 88201.
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge shall give me on that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. II Timothy 4:78
