OWENS, MYRTLE FORRESTER- Graveside services are scheduled for 1:00 PM Memory Lawn Memorial Park 2605 East 19th Street on Friday October 24, 2008 for long time Roswell resident Myrtle Forrester Owens. The Rev. Vern Edmonson, Minister, Ret. with the Disciples of Christ Church will officiate.
Myrtle was born to Edna Adams and Josiah Forrester on August 6, 1904 in Tennessee City, Tennessee. She was orphaned at age six, but through her efforts maintained close family ties with her four brothers and their families throughout their lives.
Myrtle married Barnett Andrew Owens on July 11, 1928 in Washington, DC. They had sixty-two years together until Barnetts death on April 13, 1989. Barnett and Myrtle were business partners most of their married life managing first the Camp Fuston Motor Court on West Second Street and then owning and managing the Yucca Courts on North Main in Roswell.
In addition to her beloved husband and parents, Myrtle was preceded in death by her four brothers and their wives; Walter Forrester and his wife Geneva, Calvin Forrester and his wife Elva, Jack Forrester and his wife Vera and Bill Forrester; two sister-in-laws, Grace Alexander and her husband Jim; Annie Conner and her husband Frank and a niece Gracie Posten.
Myrtle is survived by one son Col. Ret. Robert Andrew Owens and his wife Carvel of Albuquerque, two daughters; Patricia Owens Breeding and her husband Earle of Ruidoso; Alys Owens Wilmot and her husband Terry of Roswell; eight grand children; Drew Owens and his wife Dawn of Albuquerque, Cheri Breeding of Hong Kong, China, David Owens and his wife Karen of Layton, Utah, Betsy Owens of Baltimore, Maryland; Chris Owens and his wife Charlene of Poolesville, Maryland; Peter Owens and his wife Kelly of Draper, Utah, Brett Wilmot and his wife Jill of Lansdowne, Pennsylvania and Martha Breeding of Los Angeles, California; thirteen great grand children; Kamryn and Trey Owens of Albuquerque, Lisa, Stephany and Amanda Nance of Albuquerque; Matthew and Jonathan Owens of Layton, Utah; Piper and Harper Owens of Poolesville, Maryland; Tanner, Chayse, Kaysie, and Carter Owens of Draper, Utah; and one great great granddaughter, Alexis Owens of Albuquerque: nieces, Judy Alexander, Charlotte Thomas, Rena Scoggins and her husband John, Monetta Shaw and her husband Bob, Deanne Clark Dunn and her husband Tommy, Ralf Postulka and her husband Dick; nephews, Charles Alexander and his wife Delores, Bill Posten, Jim Forrester and his wife Pam and Jackie Forrester.
PMyrtle was a member of the First Christian Church for 69 years. She drove herself to church almost every Sunday until age 93 and was driven several more years by her dear friend, Pauline Daisy, until she could no longer drive. Myrtle then attended the Peachtree Sunday afternoon church service. She was a member of the Harmony Class and a member and past president of the Womens Guild at the First Christian Church. Myrtle attended Eastern Star in Roswell, but remained a member of Eastern Star 65 in Union City, Tennessee where she first joined Eastern Star in 1925. Myrtle was an active member of every Parent Teacher Organization where her three children attended school and served as President of the Roswell High Parent Teacher Association in 1956-57. She was also a member of the Roswell Womens Club and the Berrenda Vernes Book Club. Myrtle was proud of the fact that she worked at the polls for every election from the time she first came to Roswell through the elections of 2002 when she was Ninety-
