Novice Ruffin

March 5, 1921 — September 18, 2016

Novice Walker Ruffin passed away in her home of natural causes on Sunday September 18, 2016. A visitation will be held 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Wednesday September 21, 2016 at LaGrone Funeral Chapel. Funeral services are scheduled at 10:30 AM Thursday September 22, 2016 at the First Church of the Nazarene, 501 N. Sycamore Roswell, N.M. Dr. Larry Lacher will officiate services with burial to follow at South Park Cemetery.

Novice was born March 5, 1921 in Bosque County, Texas to Una and Charlie Walker. On September 1, 1937, she married Robert Ruffin in Clifton, Texas. Novice moved to Roswell in February of 1947. She worked as a telephone operator for 20 years with the Mountain Bell Telephone Company and retired in March of 1972. She was an active member of Calvary Baptist church since 1947 where she taught teens in Sunday school, worked in the church library. Novice really enjoyed being a greeter and greeting the people coming into church as well as introducing them to others. Novice was a wonderful Christian mother, grandmother, homemaker, and cook. Through the years she water skied, fished, and even went on numerous hunting trips. She spent many hours praying for each person by name. Our lives are all better because of her caring and unselfish nature. Novice was a member of the JOY Adult Senior Club and Pioneer's Telephone Company. Her hobbies include table games, playing 42 train and eating out. She enjoyed traveling extensively in a travel trailer as well as spending time with family and friends. She was also a survivor of cancer for 50+ years. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Novice loved the Lord and going to church at Calvary Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents Charlie and Una Walker, her husband Robert Ruffin, sisters Laverne Clifford and Juanita Johnson, brothers-in-law Marion Johnson and Mack McDonald, and sister-in-law Jean Walker.

She is survived by her son Larry Ruffin and his wife Daryl; daughter Charolette Ruffin-McKay and her husband Roy of Roswell, NM; brothers HC Walker of Valley Mills, TX; Sidney Walker of Clifton, TX; sisters Charlene McDonald of Waco, TX and Joan Webb and her husband of Dallas, TX; brother-in-law Bill Clifford. Grandchildren Todd Dubas of Hobbs, NM, Kristi-Mauracooper of LaQuinta, CA, Sherri McKay Todd and her husband Terry of Roswell, NM, April McKay Marshall and her husband Mike of Midland, TX. Great-grandchildren Denver, Savannah, Hunter-Mauracooper; Tanner and McKaylee Todd; Cole, Andrew, Mason, and Kara Marshall of Midland, TX; Johnathan Hamlet of Lubbock, TX.

Pallbearers will be Andrew Marshall, Mason Marshall, Cole Marshall, Tanner Todd, Todd Ruffin-Dubas, and Lee Adams.
