Phala Whitaker

WHITAKER, PHALA ANN Services are being held on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at LaGrone Funeral Chapel at 10:00 AM, for Phala Ann Whitaker, age 54, of Dexter, New Mexico, who passed away on July 30, 2014 at a local hospital. Pastor Troy Grant of Berrendo Baptist Church will officiate, with assistance by Mike Joy and Bradley Whitfield. Interment will follow at South Park Cemetery.

Phala was born January 30, 1960 in Duncan, Oklahoma, to Frank and Meredith Lindeneau Whitfield.
Her parents survive her.

She married Harold Whitaker on April 4, 1992 in Levelland, Texas. When she met Harold, she was a bookkeeper for Great Western Meat Co. in Whiteface, Texas. They moved to Roswell in 1994, and Phala was employed by A.TT., as a bookkeeper, where she retired as an Administrative Assistant.
She also worked for Harold Whitaker Livestock.

She is survived by her loving husband of 22 years, Harold, of Dexter, New Mexico. She is also survived by 2 daughters, Kelsey Whitaker of Lubbock, Texas and Taylor WhitakerEllis of Dexter, New Mexico. She has a granddaughter, Hayley Ellis, who she adored.

She is also survived by 5 brothers, Scott Tipps and family of Levelland, Jay Thornton and family and Doug Thornton and family all of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Brad Whitfield and family of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Russell Tipps and family of Bokoshe, Oklahoma. She is also survived by her stepmother and father, Geneva and Frank Whitfield of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Phala and Geneva Mimi had their special Morning Coffee on every Saturday morning by phone usually lasting at least an hour.

Phala had been very active for many years in the Chaves County Sheriffs Posse, in the New Mexico 4H program. She donated many hours to assisting youth organizations, where she was a rodeo announcer among other things. She was a hard worker and dedicated to her family and community.
She loved the simple things in life, the pleasure of dinner and a movie.

The National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas, was the special trip of every year which was a tradition with Harold and Phala.

One of her favorite pastimes was reading mystery books. She loved all animals, and especially horses, with their quiet nature. Grumpy, a nickname given to her by Harold will be missed by her family and many friends.

Friends may make memorials to the Chaves Co. Sheriffs Posse.
