Ronald Lee Lunsford was born on December 31, 1955, just a few hours before a new year was to begin, to John Denver Lunsford and Matilda Mae (Young) Lunsford in St. Louis Missouri. He left this world unexpectedly to start his eternal journey with our Lord and Savior on May 9, 2019 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Big Ron, he was so lovingly called, was the fourth child in a family of five children who have their family roots in Missouri and Arkansas. While growing up in Missouri, he attended church and played the guitar with his brother and sang with the family for church services. The family takes solace in the following scripture: 1 John 5:13-15 "I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life. And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him."
As a child, Ron spent much of his time outside fishing and swimming in the river, riding bikes, and playing ball with his older brother and friends. His family moved to Deming, New Mexico and later to Roswell, New Mexico when he was in his teens. It was during this time that he met and later married Tammie Bartlett; he fathered 4 beautiful children, three sons and one daughter during this time of adulthood. While raising his family, he held various sales positions for different companies and was a produce manager for Albertson's for several years.
Ron loved spending time with his family, listening to country music, and was always up for hearing a funny story or joke. He is known to family and friends as having a mischievous, sweet grin with the greatest dimples proven to be unmatched by anyone else. Ron is survived by his former wife, Tammie Bartlett of Roswell, New Mexico, Ronald (Little Ron) Lunsford and his wife Crystal and Jerad Lunsford with wife, Jessica, all of the San Antonio, Texas area. His son, Chad Lunsford, and the youngest child, Ashley Lunsford, both reside in Roswell, New Mexico.
Ron...brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather was blessed with 9 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. He is survived by a grandson, Dominique Lunsford of Indiana. His eldest granddaughter, Velvet, resides in Virginia with her husband Lloyd Stewart and their daughter, Charlotte. Grandchildren Autumn, Lily, Alexis, and Devyn all reside in San Antonio with their parents. Grandchildren, Tristen Madison, and Cameron all live in Roswell, New Mexico with their mother, Ashley. Ron is survived by 3 siblings, Denver Lunsford of Fredericktown, Missouri, Linda Cole and her husband Zane of Roswell, NM, and Susie Coggins and husband, K.C., of Roswell, NM. Ron was preceded in death by his sister, Connie Purcell, his niece Rebekah (Cole) McClelland, and both of his parents. There are numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who live locally and abroad who will miss Ronnie. He was loved by all who met him and got to know him and his sweet heart and personality.
Funeral services are under the direction of LaGrone Funeral Home on Tuesday May 21, 2019 at 2:00 PM., and a graveside ceremony at South Park Cemetery will immediately follow the service. A pot luck fellowship will be held at First Baptist Church of Roswell. 500 N. Pennsylvania at 4:30 pm.
