STEPHENS, ROSE BERTHA Rose Bertha Stephens, age 87, of Roswell and formerly of Las Cruces, passed away November 17, 2007.

Rose Bertha was born February 1, 1920, in South Pittsburg, Tennessee, to Preston and Annie Scharer. She was preceded in death by both her parents, her uncle and aunt, Walter and Janey Jacobs and both her husbands, Harry E. Powell and J. I. Stephens, Jr.

Survivors include her sister, Jo Collins of South Pittsburg, Tennessee, five children; Dick Powell of Roswell, Jim Stephens of Midwest City, Oklahoma, Bonita Stephens and I. J. Stephens, of Fallon, Nevada, and Jani Beth Stephens Aultman of Cabot, Arkansas and their spouses; nine grandchildren, twenty five great grandchildren, one great- great- grandchild, and three nieces.

Rose Bertha was a hairdresser in Roswell, having taught beauty school and later owned and operated the Style Mor Beauty Salon. She was also very active in church. She taught Ladies Bible Class at University Church of Christ in Las Cruces for several years. She always cared for people. She was a devoted wife and mother.

Rose Bertha will lie in state at LaGrone Funeral Chapel and Crematory from November 19, 2007 to November 21, 2007. Graveside services will be conducted at South Park Cemetery at 2:00 P. M. on November 21, 2007. Pastor Doug Austin of West Country Club Road Church of Christ will officiate.

The Stephens family sincerely appreciates the loving care given to Rose Bertha by Dr. Stiller and staff, Casa Maria Care Center and staff and Vista Care Hospice Foundation and staff.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Vista Care Hospice Foundation, 400 North Pennsylvania, Suite 500, Roswell, NM 88201 or Alzheimers Association, New Mexico Chapter, 404 North Kentucky, Roswell, NM 88201.
