Ruth Engwall

ENGWALL, RUTHRuth was born February 10, 1927 in Sabetha, KS to Elmer and Glenn Brown. She passed away July 13, 2008 at the age of 81. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Carl, and a son Nelson. She graduated from Sabetha High School in 1944 and enrolled in the University of Kansas, graduating in 1948 with a B.A. majoring in French. After Carls graduation from K.U., Carl and Ruth moved to Ft. Worth, TX, where Carl was employed by Gulf Oil Corporation. In 1952 they were transferred to Midland, TX. In 1960 they were transferred again, this time to Roswell and in 1963 Carl became an independent oil man.

Ruth began working for the New Mexico Department of Health and Human Resources and for almost 9 years assisted people in need of state services. She was an active member of the Assistance League of Chaves County, the Roswell Petro club, the American Association of University Women, and the Symphony Guild of Roswell. Ruth was an avid duplicate bridge player in Roswell and Pagosa Springs, CO. where she spent her summers. She earned her Life Master from the America Contract Bridge League in 1991.

Ruth was active in Chaves County Republicans, husband Carl was a state representative serving two terms in the state legislature from 1966 to 1970. She worked as a Republican legislative assistant at the annual sessions of the legislature for a number of years. Ruth was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Roswell and was a Deacon and a member of the Bell Ringers.

Ruth married William G. McCoy on May 31, 2002. He survives her at the family home. She is also survived by a sister, Florence and husband Bob Mason of Dallas, TX, brother, Wilbur Brown of Sabetha, KS, son, Steven of Dallas, TX and son Larry and his wife Brenda of Santa Ana, CA.

Memorial services will be at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Hugh Burrows officiating, on August 1, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Sabetha, KS the following week, August 6, 2008 in the family plot.

The family would like to thank the staff at Mission Arch Care Center and Vista Care Hospice for their compassionate care provided Ruth in her final days. In lieu of flowers the family request that contributions in memory of Ruth be made to the First Presbyterian Church, the Assurance Home, or their favorite charity.
