Ruth Struve

STRUVE, RUTH LORENE Ruth Lorene Struve departed this life on March 4, 2009, in Mescalero, New Mexico. She was born November 18, 1913 in Bell County, Texas to Stafford E. Warren and Maudean May Durham Warren.

Ruth and Arthur Struve were married July 22, 1933 in Abernathy, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and infant son, Arthur F. Struve Jr., grandson, Danny Thorp, sister, Merle Warren and brothers, Leonard and Jim Buck Warren.

She is survived by daughters Shirley Kay and husband Forrest Ogden of Mena, Arkansas and Ruidoso, New Mexico, Marvelle Thorp and Special Friend Paul Legleiter, of Tularosa, New Mexico. Grandchildren, Steven Ogden of Gunnison, Colorado, Fred and Delilah Ogden of Rockwall, Texas, Ginger and Aubrey Sterner of Mena, Arkansas, Janet and Jerry Gorden of Kansas City, Missouri, David and Pam Thorp of Tularosa, New Mexico, Karen Thorp of Lamy, New Mexico. Also a sister, Mrs. Joan Enix of Southlake, Texas, twelve great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren, two sister in laws, nieces, a nephew and many other relative and a multitude of friends.

Ruth and Arthur moved to Ruidoso on May 5, 1955 from Mena, Arkansas. She was a cook for the Ruidoso School system for over 20 years. She was known for her yeast breads and desserts.

After retirement she enjoyed her vegetable garden, flowers and needlework She was a member of the Community United Methodist Church in Ruidoso, Womens Club, and a fourteen year member of the Lincoln County Hospital Auxiliary.

Ruth and Arthur were among the first attendees of the Ruidoso Senior Center where they and others started the first bridge group in the early 1970s, Ruth and other friends were among the first quilting group at the Center. Ruth spent her last eight years at the Ruidoso Care Center, and the Mescalero Care Center, where she was a much loved resident and had many special Caregivers.

Above all, Ruth was a loving daughter, wife, mom, nanny, and friend. We will all miss her.

There will be a graveside service at Abernathy, Texas, on Monday, March 9, 2009 at 2:00 P.M., officiated by Reverend Mike Struve.
