MATSON, SADIEA graveside service will be held at 10am Saturday, March 23, 2013 at South Park Cemetery for Sadie Matson, 81, who passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2013 at her residence after a brief battle with cancer. The service will be officiated by Pastor Troy Grant of Berrendo Baptist Church.
Sadie was born on January 22, 1932 in Sterling, Oklahoma to M.D and Ida Bullock. The family remained in Oklahoma until approximately 1948 when she moved to Roswell, NM. It was here that Sadie met the love of her life, Milton Matt Matson, when he came into a local malt shop where she worked. She noticed him right away because he came into the shop wearing a wool uniform jacket in the middle of summer. As it turned out, he had recently been relocated to Walker Air Force Base after being stationed in the notoriously cold Aleutian Islands. The couple was married December 2, 1949 in Clovis, NM. They began their family and raised three daughters, Jeannie, Ida and Kay in Roswell and Artesia.
Sadie worked and retired as a records clerk for the Chaves County Sheriffs Office. She was an avid reader and particularly enjoyed reading the Bible. Sadie was also a member of Berrendo Baptist Church.
Sadie is survived by her children: Jeannie Davis and husband Bob, Ida Harris and Kay Steen and husband Mark. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Aaron Orsak and his wife Christine, Nay Anthony Griffith III, Krista Smith and her husband Scott, Kami Roten and Amanda Chaves. Sadies greatgrandchildren are Alexa Orsak, Kylyn Thompson, Dylan Thompson, Avery Smith Kiahna Sifuentes, and Matthew Sifuentes . She will be greatly missed by her entire family and her beloved dog Gracie.
Sadie was preceded in death by both of her parents. She was also preceded by her husband who passed in November, 1994 and a very special poodle, Jolie.
A reception will be held immediately following the graveside service at the family home. Memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or to the charity of the Donors choice.
