SGT PERKINS, ANDREWServices are scheduled for 10:00 A.M., Saturday, March 17, 2007 at Calvary Baptist Church for Sgt. Andrew Perkins, age 27, of Belen, New Mexico who was killed in action while serving with the 3 Battalion of the 82nd Airborne, 2-505 in Samarra, Iraq on March 5, 2007. Pastor Bruce Baker will officiate. Interment will follow at South Park Cemetery with military rites being conducted by the United States Army.
Andrew was born May 21, 1979 in Lubbock, Texas to Weldon and Kathy Perkins.
Andrew is survived by his grandparents: Lorene Jasper of Texas and Billy and Ara Stephens of Roswell; Three brothers: Aaron Perkins of Follet, Texas, Alexander Perkins of Albuquerque, NM, and Kelly Lorton of Lubbock, Texas; four sisters: Audrey Jackson of Smithville, UT, Abigail Perkins of Ardmore, OK, Melissa Beaty of Belen, NM, and Leslie Spence of Indianapolis, IN; Parents Weldon and Elizabeth Perkins of Belen, NM and Kathy Perkins of Davis, Oklahoma, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Andrew graduated from Amarillo High School in Amarillo, TX. He worked for four years for the state of Arizona, A house parent for the mentally handicapped. In 2004, he moved to Northglenn, to be with his younger brother and best friend, Alex Perkins. In April, the avid Mountain Biker, Skater, Snow Boarder, Rock Climber, and motorcyclist, enlisted in the Army as a paratrooper, a natural extension of someone who lived for adventure.
