SEARS, SHIRLEY H.Shirley was a long time resident of Roswell who lived the last few years near her daughter in Washington state. She passed away November 2nd at the age of 88 from complications of Alzheimers disease.
Shirley was born in San Antonio Texas in 1926 to John and Agnes Hartsock. Her mother passed away when she was 10 and she spent many of her young years with her doting grandparents as her father was often at sea. She married the only man she ever loved, Jim Sears in 1952. For the next 14 years, she and Jim and their children traveled the world as he pursued his Navy career. She always made a lovely home for her family, wherever they happened to be.
The last Navy transfer brought the family to Roswell in 1966. Shirley went to work as a telephone operator and juggled her full time job with raising three children, often feeling torn about not being home as much as shed like to be. She and Jim began a business raising and breeding Appaloosas, something that brought them great joy and very little money.
Shirley was the soul of the family, keeping in touch with far flung friends and relatives. She had a real gift for friendship and had many close personal friends. She loved her family, her church, every animal she ever met, gardening, reading, and creating beautiful things. She had a lovely sense of humor and a strong ethical center.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, brother John Hartsock, sister Gloria Venturo and her son Jeff.
Shirley is survived by two children, Gail and Dan, 6 grandchildren, Christopher, David, Camile, Jeff, Riley and Jackson, , sisterinlaw Christie Hartsock, daughterinlaw Marina Sears and several wonderful nieces and nephews., The family would like to acknowledge the help and support they received from Shirleys niece, Pat in the last few years.
Services will be held at Berrendo Baptist Church at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 7th, Pastor Troy Grant will be officiating. Interment will follow at South Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, you are welcome to make a donation in Shirleys name to the local Humane Society or any group that helps animals or veterans.
