Grant, Sterling Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, December 30, 2009, at Gateway Church for Sterling Grant, age 87, of Roswell, who passed away December 27, 2009. The Reverend Troy Grant of Berrendo Baptist Church will officiate with interment to follow at South Park Cemetery.brFamily will meet friends at LaGrone Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.brSterling was born to Otis and Dellie Grant in Townsend, Oklahoma, on May 12, 1922. Sterling served his country from 1939-1945 in the 7th Calvary Division of WWII. He married Norma White on April 3, 1943, in Las Cruces, NM, and she survives him at the family home. After the war he was a toll technician for Mountain Bell Telephone, a job which brought him to Roswell, NM, in 1945. He retired from Mountain Bell in 1985 and was an active member of the Telephone Pioneers Jingle Bob Club. While raising his family, he served on the Roswell City Council for 8 years, was the Captain of the Roswell Police Auxiliary for many years in the 1970s 1980s. He also was active in Little League, first as a coach and then as the Little League District 2 Administrator for 45 years. He later helped coach his grandsons, Nick and Caleb Grant at Noon Optimist Little League in the 1990s, and he still enjoyed going to watch his son and grandson coachplay at Gateway Christian School. Sterling was also an active member and deacon of Berrendo Baptist Church where he faithfully copied and folded the bulletins every Sunday morning.brSterling is survived by one brother, four sons, a daughter, and 12 grandchildren: Sons - Sterling Grant, Jr., Beth of Albuquerque, NMSterling III, Christina, Nicholas, Chad, Meagan, Gordon Grant Lynette of Houston, TX,Vicki Melissa, Troy Grant Valarie of Roswell Caleb Luke, William Bill Grant Kim of Amarillo, TX Heather, Brandon, Josh; a daughter who he was especially proud of, Dr. Bonnie Muncy Martin of Andrews, TX; brother: Melvin Shorty Grant Jerry of Amarillo, TX.
