ISAACS, STERLING P. -- Services are scheduled for Thursday, March 29, 2007, at LaGrone Funeral Chapel at 10:00 A.M., for Sterling Isaacs, age 86, of Roswell, who passed away March 25, 2007. Pastor Ben Talley, of Calvary Baptist Church will officiate with interment to follow at South Park Cemetery with Masonic Rites by the Masonic Low 12.
Sterling was born July 6, 1920, to James W. Isaacs and Mary Dunaway Isaacs on the family farm in a log house near Stratford, Oklahoma. Both parents preceded him in death as well as his father-in-law and mother-in-law Charley and Eddith Brendle, a daughter, Geneva L. Isaacs and a son, Jerry Isaacs.
Sterling graduated from Vanoss High School and on April 12, 1940 married Norah E. Brendle. They have made the Pecos Valley their home for over 66 years.
Sterling is survived by his wife: Norah of the family home; a daughter: Judith N. Jennings and her husband J.R. of Carlsbad, NM; two sons: Dickie L. Isaacs and his wife Sharron of El Campo, TX, Larry Keith Isaacs and his wife Marsha, of Yorktown, Virginia; Nine grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister Geneva McAfee of Artesia, NM and one brother Walton Isaacs of Artesia, NM.
Sterling entered the US Air Force in 1943 and later with his battalion transferred to the Army and served in the South Pacific Theater during World War Two. He was discharged in 1946 as a StaffSgt.
He earned a degree in Industrial Instrumentation with a minor in Chemistry. He worked in the oil field and also water anicital chemistry and was serving as Roswell City Chemist when he retired. He worked in the Life Insurance business as well.
Sterling was of the Baptist faith, an ordained Deacon, past Sunday School Teacher, past Sunday School Superintendent, past brotherhood president. As well as a past Brother hood president for the Pecos Valley Baptist Association, and a lay preacher.
He was a member of Woodman of the World. A past president of his lodge, past New Mexico state president, and past WOW state youth director and a past member of WOW National Fraternal Committee.
Sterling was a charter member of Valley Daylight Masonic Lodge No. 79 and served as master in 1994 and served as secretary for 5 years.
Pallbearers will be the deacons of Calvary Baptist Church.
