In Loving Memory of Suzanne Elizabeth Smith

A Life Well Lived

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Suzanne Elizabeth Smith, affectionately known as Sue or Susie. On January 22, 2025, at the age of 89. Suzanne finally met her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Suzanne was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and friend to so many. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories.

Born on July 7, 1935, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Suzanne was one of three children of Cecil and Maime Gass. Throughout her life, she worked in several secretarial jobs, including a long career at the Roswell Independent School District. Suzanne was the best homemaker, caring for her three children while her husband Richard served in the US Navy. After Richard retired from the Navy, Suzanne served by his side as he pastored several churches, including Highland Baptist Church in Roswell, NM, for 20 years. Suzanne also served as his secretary at Barnabas Ministries.

Sue was a devoted wife, having married Richard Smith in 1955. Together, they built a loving home and raised three children: Richard Smith Jr (Rickie), Michael Smith, and Vickie Provost. Suzanne is survived by her husband, Richard Smith; son, Michael Smith and his wife, Wendy, daughter Vickie Provost; and grandchildren Nichole Chambers-Tomaszewski and her husband, Stephen; Shylo Smith; Joshua Smith and his wife, Karen, and Jake Smith. She is also survived by great-grandchildren Alyssa, Nicholas, Ryan, Jayden, Jocelyn, Jasmin, Zaynen, Otto, Raynyn, Maxine, and Michael, and great-great-grandson Jaxson Griffin. Sue was a doting grandmother who enjoyed spending time with all her grandchildren. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with family and friends.

Suzanne's life was a testament to the power of kindness, love, and resilience. With a large family and many friends, Suzanne’s reach was wide, and she was cherished deeply by many. She cared deeply for her family and neighbors, always the first to offer help. Her journey on earth was marked by love, compassion, and unwavering faith in God.

As 2 Timothy 4:7-8 (NIV) states, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing."

Her passing has left a void in the hearts of her family, friends, and many others whose lives were touched by her. We ask that you remember her not for how her life ended but for how it was lived and for the profound impact she had on those who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Those serving as pallbearers are Michael Smith, Joshua Smith, Jake Smith, Stephen Tomaszewski, Nicholas Terry, Ryan Terry, Steve Bertin, Raymond Gage, Andy LaReau.
