Leon was born on November 1, 1930 in Electra, Texas to Thomas S. Whitcamp and Nettie O. Thomas Whitcamp, both preceded him in death.
He graduated from Roswell High School and attended ENMUPortales for 1 year when he was called to serve his country in Korea. So, that July 6, 1952 he married his high school sweetheart, Laqueta Boyd, whom he lovingly referred to for 62 years as My Bride. When he returned from Korea in 1953, he went to work with his father as a mechanic by day and a truck driver at night. In 1955, they welcomed their first son, Roger Shelby Whitcamp who brought great joy and lots of love to their life.
Throughout the years, with a lot of hard work and many late nights, Whitcamp Salvage was started and is still operating today. In 1966, amidst a lot of chaos of trying to keep a growing company and family afloat, Leon and Laqueta welcomed another son, Kelly Wayne Whitcamp, who kept them on their toes every day since. Leon always had a helping hand to anybody that was willing to work. He always had a joke to tell, even if he could only remember half of it later he would call and get the rest of it out to you.
Leon was a jack of all trades, master of none, he was a selfmade man with the help of his wife and boys.
Leon was fortunate enough that every summer he took a week off from work to go fishing with friends, his boys, grandkids, and pretty much anybody that wanted to go. If you didnt know how to water ski, he would make sure you would before the week was up He loved to go hunting with his boys, going to the ranch and taking care of his cows, also hanging out with his grandkids.
Leon is survived by his wife Laqueta Whitcamp His son, Roger Whitcamp and grandchildren Whitney Whit Whitcamp, and Lindsey Olive Whitcamp Son, Kelly Whitcamp and wife Jennifer and their children Taylor Whitcamp, and girlfriend Tomara Stacy, Mackenzie Whitcamp and Fiance Mark Chavira and daughter Riley, and Madison Whitcamp also his brotherinlaw Dairl Boyd, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
