Timothy Miller

Tim Miller, a well-known figure in the Roswell community, passed away Thursday, July 15, 2021, after a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer. He lived his life as a role model, a mentor, a father, grandfather, and husband, and was a man of strong character and faith. Friends are invited to celebrate Tim's life at a memorial service at 11:00 AM, Thursday, July 29, 2021 at Grace Community Church.

Born December of 1953 in Carlsbad, New Mexico to Melvin and Pauline Miller, Tim's family lived in many areas of New Mexico as his father was a state police officer. They settled in Roswell while he was young and spent the majority of his adult life there. Tim was a 1971 honor graduate at Roswell High School and earned a degree in biology from Lubbock Christian College in 1976.

As a student at LCC, Tim was vice-president of his senior class, and took great pride in serving as president of Kyodai Men's Social Club where he made many lifelong friends. After graduating from LCC, Tim moved to Houston, Texas for a short time to pursue a career in marine biology, but eventually moved back to Roswell to go into business with his father. They owned and operated Miller Investigations and Polygraph Services for many years.

Tim's wife, Nola, also attended LCC. They were introduced through mutual friends while attending the Jamie Lee Curtis classic movie, "Halloween." Together, they overcame the effects of the slasher movie and were married in December, 1979.

After his career as a polygraph examiner Tim co-owned and managed Classic's Frozen Custard. It was at Classics that Tim made his mark on the community of Roswell. His style of management had an impact on the hundreds of young people who had the privilege of working for him, and no one can forget the numerous sidewalk concerts held under the trees that surrounded Classics. He was also a figure at countless community events which he catered and will be forever remembered for his cheerful demeanor and the large tubs of frozen custard which accompanied him.

Over the years, he took an active part in his employees' lives, and served as a mentor, friend and role model to many who worked for him and attended their graduations, weddings, and other life events and celebrations.

Anyone who knew Tim would attest to his kind heart and his love for Christ. He had a reputation for well-timed and witty jokes and had the greatest sense of humor. Tim will always be remembered for his entertaining stories, his powerful testimony, his unfailing work ethic, his generous smile, and his willingness to help any friend or neighbor in need. He often quoted his favorite humorist, Jack Handey, and applied his philosophical insights to many of life situations.

No matter the situation, Tim always brought a humble spirit and a tremendous amount of knowledge along with him. He was always willing to share that knowledge through teaching, and his generosity and understanding created a strong sense of trust that would never fade.

He loved being outdoors, especially in the mountains where he enjoyed hiking, exploring and other adventures. He was a percussionist since childhood and was a member of various bands in high school, college, and his adult life. He was always drumming a rhythm and would often utilize the people around him as part of his drum set. He was an avid reader and read thousands of books throughout his lifetime. His love of the written word transcended Tim into a writer with amazing perception. Whether it was poetry, short stories or professional and technical documents, Tim was a master of the written word.

Above all, Tim loved God and his family more than anything else. His siblings were his best friends, and he would spend hours laughing with them. He enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews. He would do anything for his wife, three daughters, and his three grandchildren. From learning how to fix his daughters' hair when they were growing up, to renovating their houses and helping them move multiple times, he made every day an adventure. He spent countless hours entertaining his grandsons and always looked forward to spending days with them, even on his sickest chemo days.

Tim was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Pauline Miller, and his sister, Dawn Miller. He is survived by his wife, Nola Miller of Roswell, and his daughters Alycia (and husband Justin) Wright of Roswell, Alana (and husband Johnny) Rivera of Las Cruces, and Bryttany Miller of Roswell; his grandchildren, Lane and Colton Wright, and Mylah Rivera; his brother Barry (and wife Elaine) Miller of Lovington; his sister Lyn Morris (and husband Pat Morris) of Mesquite, TX; Sisters in law Susan (and husband Joel) Coffman of Marietta, GA and Zandra Bowley of Andrews TX. His surviving nieces and nephews include Shana (and husband Jason) Fry, Sean (and wife Lilly) Miller, Josh (and wife Karen) Miller, Justin Miller, Kevin (and wife Becca) Morris, Logan (and husband Robert) Dennis, Bailey (and husband Colt) Thompson, Matt Bowley, and Shaina Blair and several great nieces and nephews.

If desired, friends may make memorial contributions to the Assurance Home and/or the Hope Fund (for cancer patients) at Grace Community Church in lieu of flowers.
