Tom Hoover

Tom Hoover, longtime resident of Roswell passed away on November 23 in Shady Shores, TX after an extended illness. Tom was born in Chandler, Arizona on May 26, 1923 to Jim and Dewey Hoover. He moved to the Roswell area before he was a year old and remained here most of his life.

Tom was a graduate of Roswell High School where he lettered in football, basketball, baseball and track all four years. Tom started college at the University of New Mexico, but as he puts it, he heard red, white, and blue noises at the beginning of World War II. He joined the Marine Corp and served as a fighter pilot in both World War II and the Korean Conflict.

During war time Tom married his high school sweetheart, Marjorie Wolfe on April 27, 1944 in Cherry Point, NC. They were blessed to celebrate 64 years together.
After leaving the Marine Corp Tom worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Following retirement he worked as an agricultural advisor for United New Mexico Bank and in agriculture real estate. Tom was always active in the community coaching sports and serving with the Roswell Noon Optimist Club for over 52 years.

Tom is survived by his three children, Barbara Kaiser and her husband Don of Colorado Springs, CO, Richard Hoover and his wife Pat of Roswell, and Becky Hardman and her husband Kyle of Shady Shores, TX. He is survived by five grandchildren, Lorraine Willis, Crystal Asetta and her husband Paul all of Phoenix, AZ, Ryan Hoover and his wife Jennifer of Roswell, and Heather and Haley Hardman of Shady Shores, TX. Tom is also survived by three greatgrandchildren, Cody Carlin of Phoenix, AZ, and Arianna and Alexis Hoover of Roswell.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and one granddaughter, Kim Kaiser of Shady Shores, TX.

Tom will be buried at South Park Cemetery next to his beloved Marge in a private service. A memorial and celebration of his life is being planned for a later date to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Toms memory may be made to the Roswell Noon Optimist Club.
