CANNON, VERMELL RAYA Funeral Service is scheduled for Friday, May 21, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. for Vermell Ray Cannon, age 65 of Yuma, AZ who passed away on May 11, 2009. Pastor Michael Shelton with Friendship Missionary Baptist Church will officiate with interment to follow at South Park Cemetery.
Vermell Ray Cannon was born June 18, 1943 in El Reno, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Angline Jackson and Joseph E. Ray Sr., both of whom preceded her in death. Vermell received Christ at an early age in El Reno, Oklahoma. Vermell moved to Roswell, New Mexico in 1960 to live with her father, Joseph and Lucille Ray. On November 14, 1965 she married EK Cannon, Jr. in friendship Missionary Baptist Church of which she was a member. The couple moved to Olathe, Kansas, where EK, being in the Marine Corps was stationed, and where their daughter, Elizabeth was born in November, 1967. In 1969, Vermell and EK moved to Millington, TN, where their son Stephen was born in March 1970. The Cannon family moved around from duty station to duty station until 1986, when they moved to Yuma, AZ.
Vermell and family always found a Church to join and work with. In Yuma, Vermell and EK joined Second Missionary Baptist Church, where they served on the Usher board and other auxiliary in the church. In 2000, Vermell and EK united with Grace Bible Fellowship. Vermell was a faithful member until she became ill. Vermell was loved by those that knew her. She loved the Lord and lived a Godly life. She was always the life of the party and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her husband EK Cannon, Jr. of Yuma, AZ, One daughter Elizabeth and husband Creighton P. Scott and four children, Jaden, Lauryn, Christian and Nathan of Charlotte, NC, one son, Stephen P. Cannon and two children, Jacob and Stephen of Addison, TX, one aunt, Viola Trueluck of El Reno, OK, one uncle, Nathaniel Ray or Wichita, Kansas two brothers, Joseph E. Ray, Jr of San Antonio, TX and Nathaniel Ray of Suffolk, VA, one sister, Mary Theresa Higgins of Wichita, KS, one God daughter, Lucy Ann Perryman and God son, Zechariah I. Perryman of Roswell, NM and host of relatives, friends and Church family.
Pallbearers will be GySgt Creighton P. Scott, Mr. Stephen P. Cannon, Mr. Sgynman Gibbs, Mr. Allen Cannon, Master Zechariah I Perryman and Master Eric E. Crosby. Honorary Pallbearers are Mr. Russell Wright, Mr. Jacob Cannon and Mr. Ernest Reese.
