Virginia was born November 30, 1919 in Posey, Indiana, to Ray and Lena MacMichael Anderson. She lived on a farm near Arlington, Indiana. She graduated from Arlington High School in 1937 and pursued her education, obtaining a Bachelors Degree from Marion College, Marion, Indiana. She taught math and science in Manila, Indiana in her early teaching career. She also attended Butler University, Indianapolis, IN, and moved out west to attend University of Colorado, Boulder, CO. earning a Masters Degree in Education. Her CEUs throughout the years were with ENMU, Portales. She moved to Roswell in 1949 to teach math at Roswell High School for the next 14 years.
She married Ernest J. Bennett in 1952. They lived in Roswell until 1965 when a transfer moved the family to Hobbs, NM. She immediately acquired a teaching position in math with Hobbs HS for about 14 more years and after retiring, she and Ernest returned to Roswell.
She was a devout Christian since she was a teenager and was a loyal member of First Church of the Nazarene, serving as board member, childrens teacher, office assistant, and numerous other jobs that needed volunteer services. She was happy with a hammer in her hand and working on a building project, which has included several church constructions. She was a faithful servant to her Saviour and always tried to serve Him.
She is survived by her loving husband Ernest, daughter, Sharon Drusedum and her husband, John of Roswell, granddaughters, Kelley Sorrel, Sanford, FL. and Julia Miller and husband Terry, Paige, TX, and 3 greatgrandchildren, Chaeli, Logan and Bryce, her brother Ray Anderson, Jr., Manila, IN. and numerous extended Hoosier family members.
Friends may make memorials in Virginias name to the Gideons International, or the Nazarene World Missions, in lieu of flowers. They may also pay respects on line at wwwlagronefuneralchapels.com
Virginia wrote her own obituary and somehow hid it from the family, her last joke on us I was married to her for 57 years and loved her beyond words. I could not have had a better wife, companion and friend. God bless all of you who have extended kindness, comfort and help to me and our family in this time of great sadness. Kindest regards, Ernest, Sharon and John.
