A celebration of life will be held 1:00 to 3:00 pm, Saturday, June 6, 2015 at Country Club Road Church of Christ for Wanda Dell Dyer, age 72, who passed away May 21, 2015.
Wanda was born in Roscoe, Texas to Daniel and Wanda June Arnold on March 24, 1943. In 1946, Louis W. Jones entered her life and became her adopted father. Wanda graduated from Snyder High School in Snyder, Texas in 1961. She continued her education at the College of the Southwest where she obtained her Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education. She also met her husband of 49 ½ years, Vernon, while in college.
She worked at Lea County Tax Assessor's Office; Lubbock County Tax Assessor's Office and was hired as Chief Deputy Tax Assessor in Hockley County in Texas. After waiting 2 years to receive her boys, she left her career to raise her family.
Wanda loved her horses, her dogs and cats. She was known for her humor and her dedicated to her family. Her nickname was WD40, which was a gift to her on her 40th birthday. She would bring a smile to everyone's face and had her own nicknames for all of her hospice staff. Wanda instilled a sense of responsibility and appreciation of life in her boys. Wanda was the only woman in the house of three men, she made an arrangement with them, she ran her home, her barn and they provided. Her love of her family went above all else, it transcended death and her biggest concern was who would do for her men after she passed on. Two days before she passed on, Todd asked her if she was awake, her response was "Quit lollygagging and get to work" words that expressed her independence, love and dedication, that is her legacy that will live on in them.
She is preceded in death by her biological parents, Daniel Odell Arnold who was killed in Okinawa, Japan in 1945 during WWII, Wanda June Tirrell and her adopted father, Louis W. Jones.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband and her two sons, Chauncey Todd of Las Angeles, CA and Jason Clancey of Roswell, New Mexico.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Wanda's name, may be made to the National Humane Society or charity of their choice.
