Wendell R. Wakefield was born December 21, 1942 to Adeline Leonard Wakefield Starr and Perry P. Wakefield in Huntington, Utah. Wendell passed away peacefully in his home on November 25, 2016 from a rare form of cancer.
He and his wife Lynnette have been married for 51 years; they were married in the Manti, Utah temple for time and all eternity. They have 6 children and 21 grandchildren with one on the way.
Wendell and his family moved to Roswell in 1973 and in 1981, Wendell decided to start his own business and make Roswell his home to raise his family. He owned and operated Wakefield Oil Company and he loved working with his employees and serving his customers. He prided himself on service. He was very active in the community having served on several different business boards, and always trying to help better the community.
He was very active in his church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving twice as bishop of the Roswell First Ward. He loved working with the youth of the church and teaching people about the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Wendell's greatest legacy is his generous heart. He loved to help people in need and he expected nothing in return. His love for his family knew no bounds and being around his grandchildren brought him great joy.
He is survived by his six children and their spouses; Wendolyn and Phil, Perry and Lauriann, LaMond and Melody, Janelle and Gareth, JoLynne and Michael, Jayton and Beth and also by 21 grandchildren. He is also survived by his 6 siblings; Gregg, Garth, Shelton, Jerilyn, Lond, and Preston.
A visitation will be held 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM Tuesday November 29, 2016 at LaGrone Funeral Chapel. A viewing will be held 9:00 AM Wednesday November 30, 2016 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints; followed by a funeral service commencing at 10:00 AM Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 2201 W. Country Club Rd in Roswell. Interment will follow at South Park Cemetery. Bishop Phil Davis will officiate.
