In 1926 the family homesteaded from Oklahoma to a farm near Floyd, NM community. Willard attended Floyd schools and was the Valedictorian of his graduating class. He attended what is now known as New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, NM. In 1936, he moved to Roswell and fell in love with a beautiful redhead, Myrtle Busby. They married May 12, 1936 and moved to Hobbs to work in the oil fields. One month later, Willards dad was killed and they moved to Floyd to help on the family farm. A few years later, they moved to Ft. Sumner, NM and started a dairy and supplied fresh milk to the area. In 1943, Willard heard of a job opening in Clovis with the Santa Fe Railroad. He went to work the next day after his interview and worked 36 years, 8 months and 2 days. He declared his independence on July 4, 1979, and retired as engineer. Up until a month ago, he could proudly tell you that he logged in 1,544,834 miles.

He always had a beautiful yard and a plentiful garden and was a good Stock Market Speculator, offering advise to anyone who inquired.
