William Lewis TeennerBill Hancock died on January 26, 2007, at the age of 80. He was born August 3, 1926, to Mac and Mallie Hancock, the 9th of 10 children. With the spiritual guidance of a strong Christian family, he came to know Christ as his savior at a very young age, carrying both the salvation message and reliance on Gods strength with him in all of his life.
Memorial Service to be held at LaGrone Funeral Chapel, Roswell, NM, on Thursday, February 1, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. There will be no reception and interment will be at the Hancock Family Cemetery on February 4, 2007.
After growing up during the Great Depression, he enlisted in the Navy in the fall of 1944 where he nearly lost his right arm. In 1952, he married his long time love, Florence Lillian Vestal, in Tucumcari, NM. Shortly thereafter, his 3 boys Ralph Kenneth Patton, Gerald Wayne Patton and Howard Ray Cotton Patton came to live with them, adding great joy to their lives. Teenner spent most of his work life in oil drilling, custom harvesting, trucking, farming and, eventually, in the auto body and wrecking business. In 1967 Teenner and Florence had the baby long prayed for, Reuben Lewis Hancock. In 1979, they moved to Roswell, NM, where Teenner retired.
Throughout his life, Teenner was always looking to help those in need. Even when helping others caused great personal grief and hardship, he persevered in putting others first. Even as he was sick and dying, he continued to focus on the needs of others before his own. One of his last acts was to be sure that, Jimmy Hill, one of Teenners longtime friends, had someone to help with food and cleaning. In his most difficult times, Teenner still realized that others needed a helping hand and he always offered his.
He is survived by three sons and four daughter-in-laws; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren and one great-grandchild on the way. He was preceded in death by his wife, seven brothers and sisters and his son Ralph Kenneth Patton
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, those seeking to honor Teenner continue his tradition of helping those in need by making gifts to the ANGEL FOOD MINISTRIES project payable to GOD OF WONDERS FELLOWSHIP, PO Box 20803, Amarillo, TX 79114. This project feeds those who have little or no other resources.
