William Earnest Hill, age 78, of Hagerman, NM, passed away Wednesday August 30, 2017.
Bill was born to Charles Peter Hill and Zelma Lee Hyer Hill on October 2, 1938 in Des Moines, NM. He joined the Army in 1958 and was sent to Germany as an MP in the 529th and then became a member of the Honor Guard. As a Honor Guard member he was assigned to guard President Eisenhower during the Four Power Paris Summit. He was supposed to rotate home and was extended six months due to the Berlin crisis in order to help maintain the line when the Berlin Wall was started. After the military, he married his wife Mary Jo and become a police officer and Sheriff in various cities and counties in NM for 11 years. Changed career fields and became a truck driver for 32 years. Bill retired from Groendyke Transit in 2007. Bill had many favorite past times: hunting, fishing, whittling, reading, watching tv "westerns in particular", was a big fan of the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Rams.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Paul Hill.
He is survived by his wife Mary Jo Hill of the family home in Hagerman, NM; son William Earnest Hill, Jr. (Patricia Garcia) of Roswell, NM; daughters Barbara Jean Hill of Hagerman, NM, Kirstene Jo Clark (Kurt) of Titusville, FL., former daughter-in-law Pauline Arias Hill of Roswell, NM; sister Charlene Lee Naglich of Pueblo, CO; grandchildren Joshua Michael Hill, Matthew Scott Clark, Amanda Beth Banda, Kaylan Audrey Moeckli, Racquel Renee Hill, Megan Marie Hill, William Nicholas Hill; great-grandchildren Melody Eva Hill, Adam Nathaniel Clark, Isaac James Clark, Andrea Marie Hill, and Harmony Faith Banda.
