HOFFMAN, JR., WILLIAM AUGUST Services are scheduled for 2:00 PM, March 28, 2011 at 2:00 P.M, at LaGrone Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at South Park Cemetery.
William was born May 4, 1920 in Roswell, New Mexico, to William A. and Ollie O. Conn Hoffman, Sr. Both parents preceded him in death. His brother and two sisters also preceded him in death.
After graduating from high school in Roswell, Bill went to Eastern New Mexico University. He was drafted by the US Army and after training, served in Italy. After WWII ended, he used the GI Bill to go to the Chicago Art Institute to complete a Bachelors degree in Art. Later he would attend Alfred University in New York to complete a Masters of Art degree in ceramic arts. Eventually he returned to Chicago where he remained to teach ceramic arts, first at the Chicago Art Institute and later at the Loyola University Chicago as well as sculpt ceramic works. Bill traveled extensively to study and collect historical art with a particular interest in PreColumbian Art that of Mexico, Central and South America. William died of natural causes on March 22, 2011, at his home in Chicago.
He is survived by a niece and five nephews, David Wright of Greenville, Texas, Robert Groves of Austin, Texas, Gary Wright of Mesquite, Texas, Ray Hoffman of Dallas, Texas, Barbara Wright Treat of Ennis, Texas, and Keith Hoffman of Springfield, Ohio.
