William H “Bill” Luck was born in Amarillo Texas May 29, 1943 to Jason and Nelle Luck. He passed away December 3, 2020 of Natural causes. Bill grew up in Herford TX where he played on his Grandfathers farm. He moved to Roswell when he was in third grade. Bill would often tell stories of working construction with his father. Together Bill and his father would travel at the drop of a hat to complete a job or start a project. He attended South Junior High where he met Diana Wakefield and began what would soon turn into 60 plus years together. Bill graduated from Roswell High School in 1962. He enlisted in the New Mexico National Guard and began his life with Diana. Bill and Diana moved from Roswell to Portales for Diana to go to school. Bill worked a variety of jobs while trying to find his niche. Along the way it was evident he had a gift for working in the outdoors and with people. Bill loved doing anything that would put him outside, working with his hands, and animals. He started hauling livestock in Portales and then began “Bill Luck Trucking” once they moved to Roswell. He owned and operated his business until the late 80’s. He worked for Rowell Wool and Mohair continuing to foster his relationships with New Mexican ranching families. Bill then moved his services over to the Wooten family and Roswell Livestock Auction. While working for Roswell Livestock Bill continued to make life-long friends and help his family achieve their goals. For the last 14 years Bill worked for the Chaves County Road Department. Bill was never one to let time waste. He would get up early and go to bed late if that is what it took to get the job done. He never met a stranger and you always knew where you stood with him. Bill’s word was his bond and everyone that spent any time around him knew that. In recent years he loved watching his grandkids play whatever sport they were playing at the time. He also enjoyed going to Friday night football games and setting with his “top row” buddies.
